Community Health Education

The Kambia Appeal has made two public health information films that are now screened at health centres and toured to local villages to encourage communities to use health facilities.

Belleh Woman Go de Right Side

A film made in 2005 by Alice Kerr-Wilson and Peter Kraus to highlight the importance of seeking maternal health care.  Find out more about this film

Call di Life Saver!

A film made in 2008 by James Dowling, Greg Browning, Toby Smith and Clare Reddington to support The Kambia Appeal’s motorbike ambulance project at Barmoi Munu and Masselleh. Find out more about this film

Next project: Radio Broadcasts

The next community health education project we would like to launch is a series of regular programmes on Radio Kolenten, the local radio station in Kambia District, to promote maternal and child health.  The monthly programmes, which would be made in the four local languages of Kambia, could include panel discussions and phone-ins with local medical staff at the hospital, dramas, songs and comedies.  Radio Kolenten is has a large listening audience across the district, including many of the villages in the remote rural areas, so health messages would reach a wide range of the Kambia community.
